HOW DOES IT WORK

Working with nature, not against it. People talk about regenerative farming – we believe we have been regenerative farmers for nearly 30 years.

Starting with the soil, we don’t use artificial fertilisers. We protect the plants by not using herbicides and we have 50% more bees, butterflies and other pollinators by not using pesticides. We encourage healthy soil and fields full of rich grass and flowers – this gives our girls a great fresh diet – a sort of fresh green salad!

The girls are free to roam as much as they like, but just like us, they would prefer to be inside when the weather is bad. To make sure they are happy when they come inside, we provide a few backscratchers and make sure they have a choice of beds to rest on.

By its very nature, organic farming is a regenerative food system, providing a haven for the natural environment to thrive. This not only benefits the farm and the cows, but the local community, the wider environment and the production of natural healthy foods for now and for the generations to come.

ORGANIC
CERTIFICATION

Organic farming and food production is not easy, it takes real commitment and attention to detail.  It is the only food production system governed by UK and International Law, with the whole supply chain independently verified each year.  The standards our farmers work to cover all aspects of farming and food production including animal care, environmental protection, quality and food safety to name but a few.

OUR LEADING LADIES

The way in which we care for our cows is pivotal in producing the most naturally nutritious and healthy milk. Our cows are more than just free-range, they graze natural organic herbicide free pastures day and night for an average of 235 days each year. This far exceeds many others who claim to be free range but only require cows to be outdoors for 4 hours a day for 100 days a year, and is a world away from the caged system in which cows are indoors all year round. By grazing their natural diet in this way, the milk our cows produce contains 50% more beneficial omega 3 fatty acids (but sadly the Advertising Standards Agency determine we can’t advertise this fact!). Cow care, comfort and health is always at the top of our priority list, such attention to detail in these areas takes a huge amount of time, focus and dedication by our farmers but enables them to care for their cows to such a high level that eliminate the need to use antibiotics.

SOIL AND PASTURES

If all UK farmland was converted to organic farming, at least 1.3 million tonnes of carbon would be taken up by the soil each year – the equivalent of taking nearly 1 million cars off the road!  Our farmers work hard to maintain the health and fertility of their soils, in turn producing nutritious pastures for our cows to graze.  This holistic soil and pasture cycle enables our cows to graze throughout the year, for an average 235 days, truly free range.

BIRDS, BEES & BUTTERFLIES

By farming organically, our farmers don’t use nasties like herbicides, pesticides or GMO’s, they instead work with nature to produce food in a way which preserves and protects our natural environment.  This means that on average, plant, insect and bird life is 50% more abundant on organic farms.  In its nature, organic farming is a regenerative food system, providing a haven for the natural environment to thrive.  Our producers care for a number of critical landscapes including SSSI’s, AONB’s, wetlands, moorland and protected nesting sites, which are all enabled to flourish through sensitive organic management.

OUR FARMERS

Our producers have been caring for their land and animals organically for an average of over 15 years, with some farming in this way for over 30 years. They are dedicated to producing food to the highest standards, in harmony with their local environment, without the use of herbicides, pesticides, GMO’s or antibiotics. Together we believe this is the only sustainable way to produce natural and nutritious food for our future generations.
