OMSCO LAUNCHES NEW GRASS ROOTS DAIRY CO. BRAND SHOWCASING ALL THAT IS GREAT ABOUT ORGANIC DAIRY
Omsco, the British farmer-owned co-operative dedicated to organic dairy, has launched its first branded range of great tasting Cheddar created specifically for the UK market. The new, deliciously moreish and naturally nutritious Grass Roots Dairy Co. range aims to tap into a growing demand from consumers who care about the foods they eat; care about the animals that produce them; and care about the impact they have on the planet.
The new Grass Roots Dairy Co. branded range is made from Omsco farmers’ milk produced by a farming system that is accredited to be free from the use of pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilisers, GMOs and also, unusually for most UK dairy products, antibiotics. Free-range, grass-fed milk produced by cows that graze on lush green grass, clover and flower filled pastures for, on average, 235 days a year. Cows that are cared for by farmers who place a premium on delivering the highest levels of proactive animal health, welfare, and husbandry without having to resort to using antibiotics.
As the brand’s name reflects, central also to the ethos of Grass Roots Dairy Co. is the commitment of our organic dairy farmers to producing milk in a way that sustains and enhances the natural environment. By farming in a low impact, truly regenerative manner, our Members promote biodiversity and by only using natural fertilisers on their land they enrich the natural goodness and fertility of their soils. In doing so, they create the nutrient rich, pesticide and herbicide free, pastures that their cows love to feed on. While by working with, not against, nature they create a haven for the natural environment to thrive including valuable habitats for wildlife including birds, bees, and butterflies.
The Grass Roots Dairy Co. range is made in the heart of Somerset employing traditional recipes and techniques. While its sustainable credentials are further enhanced by the use of green energy derived from 100% renewable Solar power and biogas from an AD plant.
The Grass Roots Dairy Co. range will start appearing in specialist cheesemongers, delis, independent retailers, and farm shops from later this month. It will also be available through selected wholesalers including specialist cheese and dairy suppliers such as The Cheese Merchant and Proper Good Dairy. While in the coming months it will also be available through direct to home box schemes and online. The range will initially consist of:
A mellow & creamy Mild Organic Cheddar, 200g pre-pack with an RRP of £3.25
A smooth & tasty Mature Organic Cheddar, 200g pre-pack with an RRP of £3.50
A strong & rugged Extra Mature Organic Cheddar, 200g pre-pack with an RRP of £3.75
The new range’s packs will deliver real standout on the dairy fixture thanks to stunning, highly evocative artwork that conveys the Grass Roots Dairy Co. brand ethos of being produced in balance with nature.

OMSCO ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF DAVID WILLIAMS AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE
The Board of Omsco, the UK’s largest organic dairy co-operative, is pleased to announce the appointment of David Williams as its Chief Executive. David will assume the newly created role of Chief Executive at the start of April.
A skilled and experienced business leader, David has over 25 years’ experience of working in the dairy industry. This includes holding several board and senior executive posts in major UK and European farmer-owned dairy co-operatives.
David has held a number of senior-level finance roles in Arla Foods Amba, the co-operative owned by c.10,000 European dairy farmers and one of the world’s largest dairy food manufacturers. He is currently Arla’s Global Head of Finance, Members, Milk & Trading, based at its Head Office in Viby, Denmark.
Before joining Arla, David was for 7 years the Corporate Finance and Strategy Director for Milk Link, the leading UK dairy co-operative, and prior to that its Finance Director. In these roles, he played an important part in helping to develop and implement Milk Link’s transition into a progressive farmer-owned dairy processing business.
David is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a BSC (Hons) degree from Queen Mary College, University of London.

One which will ultimately help us achieve our core objective of delivering a sustainable, industry leading organic milk price for our Members.”

The challenge now is to build upon these strong foundations and create evermore valuable and sustainable outlets for our Members’ organic milk – a challenge I’m incredibly excited to take on.”
