BENEFITS OF ORGANIC FARMING
At Omsco we and our dairy farmers care.
We care about sustaining the environment for today’s and future generations ….care about the health, happiness and well being of their cows ….and care about producing natural, nutritious and great tasting milk and dairy products.
Omsco is a co-operative of like-minded, forward thinking, organic dairy farmers who for nearly 30 years have been passionate about farming organically and working with nature not against it – because it is the right thing to do.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
In farming organically our farmers don’t use nasties like herbicides, pesticides or GMOs, but instead work with nature to produce food in a way which preserves and protects our natural environment.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Protecting and enhancing the environment comes naturally to our farmers
By farming organically, our farmers don’t use nasties like herbicides, pesticides or GMOs, they instead they work in harmony with nature to produce food in a way which preserves and protects our natural environment.
In its very nature, organic farming is a regenerative food system, providing a haven for the natural environment to thrive and creating valuable habitats for wildlife including birds, bees and butterflies. Indeed, alongside running their dairy farms many of our farmers care for a number of critical landscapes including SSSI’s, AONB’s, wetlands, moorland and protected nesting sites, which are all enabled to flourish through sensitive organic management.
If all UK farmland was converted to organic farming, at least 1.3 million tonnes of carbon would be taken up by the soil each year – the equivalent of taking nearly 1 million cars off the road!
TRULY FREE RANGE
Our farmers are committed to enabling their cows to graze on lush green pastures.
Omsco cows are happy, healthy, cows that spend the majority of the year grazing on lush, green, herbicide and pesticide free, pastures.

TRULY FREE RANGE
Happy, healthy cows
The way in which we care for our cows is pivotal in producing the most naturally nutritious and healthy milk. Our cows are more than just free-range, they graze natural, organic, herbicide free, pastures day and night for an average of 235 days each year. This far exceeds many others who claim to be free range but only require cows to be outdoors for 4 hours a day for 100 days a year, and is a world away from the fully-housed systems in which cows are kept indoors all year round.
By grazing their natural grass diet in this way, the milk our cows produce contains 50% more beneficial omega 3 fatty acids (but sadly the Advertising Standards Agency determine we can’t advertise this fact!).

PUTTING ANIMAL WELFARE FIRST
Our farmers are passionate about ensuring the highest levels of health and welfare for their cows.
Such attention to detail takes a huge amount of time, focus and dedication by our farmers but enables them to care for their cows to such a high level that they eliminate the need to use antibiotics.

ANIMAL WELFARE
Dedicated to the highest levels of animal health and welfare
The care, comfort and health of the cows that produce the high quality milk which is at the heart of all our products is of paramount importance to Omsco’s farmers. As such, not only do our farmers fully meet the rigorous animal health and welfare standards set and audited by UK and international organic certification bodies but they go beyond them. This takes a huge amount of time, focus and dedication by our farmers but in doing so it enables them to care for their cows to such a high level that they eliminate the need to use antibiotics.

REDUCED EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS
Free from herbicides, pesticides and antibiotics
By the farmer not using herbicides and pesticides, these chemicals can’t contaminate the soil or the grass, which in turn means our cows don’t digest these nasties which could have contaminated their milk. Truly healthy and nutritious fresh milk must be clean of nasties.

REDUCED EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS
Because we care
Our farmers care about producing natural, nutritious and great tasting milk and dairy products. They work in harmony with nature, with the aim of producing a natural balance between plants and animals to prevent pests, so that they don’t need to use pesticides. They want flower rich fields, to encourage bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
The fewer chemicals in the environment – the lower the risk of food contamination.
The cows are cared for to such high standards that they eliminate the need for the farmers to use antibiotics.
